30 Jun 2004 - Chief Inspector David Bell Visits Harby School

On the 30th June David Bell Her Majesty's Chief Inspector came to congratulate the school on being included in the 'particularly successful' schools list.

When he arrived he went around the classrooms visiting R/1 first. He had a chat with them when they were using the laptops and surveying favourite foods , other children were making play dough food and sketching fruit. After that he went to Years 4/5 and asked some of the children about which books they had read recently and Jordan also told him about their work on Africa. Then he went to see Year 2/3 in their art lesson. He asked Mrs Chilvers if she liked her class and she replied ' yes, they are a hard working group of children'. Later Mr Bell was interviewed and we discovered that his favourite subject was history, which he went on to study at university. He won two awards for football when he was fourteen, apparently he played in goal. The interviewers asked him what the difference is between being a headmaster and being head of Ofsted. He said, 'when you are a headmaster you are head of one school and when you are head of Ofsted you are responsible for all the schools'. His favourite part of his job is visiting schools and meeting people.

The school was very proud to welcome our important visitor. It was a real honour.
